Ernestene “Shorty” Janes Kemp, 87, of Columbia, Kentucky, died Friday, October 21, 2016 at 8:45 A.M. at Signature Healthcare at Summit Manor

She was born August 23, 1929, in Adair County, to the late Galeon and Sally Keltner Janes. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Claudy Kemp in 1984, a son, Willie Kemp in infancy, two grandchildren, one great-grandchild, three brothers, Johnnie, Lewis and Bill Janes and a sister, Ruth Burris.

She was a member of Tarter’s Chapel United Methodist Church, had worked at Osh Kosh B’Gosh and a cook at John Adair Elementary School.

Survivors include:

Three sons – Billy (Rita) Kemp of Jamestown, Daryl (Connie) Kemp, Don (Vicki) Kemp all of Columbia

Two daughters – Faye (Wendell) Burton of Columbia, Patsy Kemp of Columbia and special friend, Charles Seaborne of Campbellsville

Four brothers – Ollen, Payne and Herbert Janes all of Milltown, Norman Janes of Campbellsville

Four sisters – Frieda Smith of Louisville, Sue Cundiff and Phyllis Stone both of Columbia, Retter Bailey of Campbellsville

Ten Grandchildren, 19 Great-Grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends

Funeral service – Sunday, Oct. 23, 2016 at 1:00 P.M. at Grissom-Martin Funeral Home with Rev. William Davenport officiating

Burial in Tarter’s Chapel Cemetery

Visitation after 5:00 P.M. Saturday
