William H. Compton, 95, of Elizabethtown, formerly of Columbia and Campbellsville, died Friday, December 15, 2017 at 4:51 P.M. at the Carl M. Brashear Radcliff Veterans Center in Radcliff.
He was born August 20, 1922, in Weed, Kentucky, to the late Arlin and Creo Nell Roach Compton. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Burris Compton, three brothers; Herschel T., James Allen and Cecil Compton, two sisters; Ida Estelle Christensen and Leo Nell Bartley and a special nephew; Leon Moore.
He was a member of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church, a U.S. Army Veteran, serving three years in the South Pacific during World War II, a mechanic, body man and a self-employed contractor.
Survivors include:
Four sisters – Sophia Alice Henderson of Indianapolis, Indiana, Edna Ozella (Elmer) Mayes of Venice, Florida, Viola Dee (Don) Osborne of Campbellsville, Nordina (Michael) Wilkins of Elizabethtown
A special niece – Elizabeth Coomer

Funeral service – Monday, December 18, 2017 at 12 Noon at Grissom-Martin Funeral Home with Retired Chaplain Jim Swim officiating
Burial in Haven Hill Cemetery with full military honors presented by V.F.W. Post 6097
Visitation after 10:00 A.M. Monday
Memorials are requested to the American Cancer Society. These may be left at the funeral home.
