Janis Garrett, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and faithful servant of her community, passed away peacefully at the Shanti Niketan Hospice Home in Glasgow, Kentucky, surrounded by her loving family on June 26, 2026.
Born in New Jersey, Janis moved with her family in the 1970s and built a new, loving home in Columbia, Kentucky. She creating a warm and welcoming household that became a gathering place for family and friends. A long-time parishioner of Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Columbia, Janis served others with quiet strength and deep faith. She held numerous positions within the church, generously giving her time and talents to support its mission and ministries.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jonathon Davidson and LaBerta Wood, and by her husband of 62 loving years, John “Jack” Garrett. Janis is survived by her two sons, Brian (Casi) Garrett and Mark (Chasidy) Garrett. She is also survived by her cherished grandchildren: Tasha, BJ, Caitlin, Cailean, Noah, and Ainslee. Her family will carry forward the values she instilled—faith, kindness, loyalty, and the importance of putting loved ones first.
A Funeral Mass celebrating Janis’s life will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, July 4, 2026, at Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Columbia, Kentucky, with Rev. Johnson Thekkudan officiating. There will be no visitation at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Good Shepherd Catholic Church or the Shanti Niketan Hospice Home in memory of Janis Garrett.
