Kenneth Scott Obituary

Kenneth E. Scott died October 23, 2021 in Columbia, Ky.

He was born February 4, 1931 to the late Noah Jack and Beatrice (Rogers) Scott. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Norma (Helm) Scott and a brother J.W. Scott.

He worked in the grocery business many years, starting as a clerk at Kroger’s while in high school.  He moved on to manager of the new Houchens store in Columbia in 1958, working his way up to regional supervisor and then Vice President of Operations at the corporate office in Bowling Green, where he retired almost 35 years later.

Then he returned home to Columbia and full time farming, his true passion and joy.  And he was still taking care of his farm and loving it at age 90.

He served in the Army during the Korean War (1951-1953), and received a Purple Heart and an Infantry Combat medal among others. He continued a life of service after returning home – VFW – serving on military funeral detail, Rotary Club, Kiwanis, Soil Conservation board, Cattleman’s Association, school board, Kentucky Colonel and a Mason for more than 60 years.  He was a member of Trinity United Methodist church for many years and attended Jones Chapel Church the last several years. He was a beloved member of the community, always had a funny story and a positive and encouraging attitude. He helped many people throughout his life, quietly and not expecting anything in return. He accomplished a lot, coming from his humble beginning – born the son of tenant farmers during the depression.  He loved his hometown, his family and many friends, and was especially proud to be “Mayor of Bliss”.
