Thomas "Tommy" Winfrey

William Thomas “Tommy” Winfrey, 89, passed away May 26, 2022.  He was born January 14, 1933 in Crocus, Kentucky, to the late Thomas and Georgia (Sallee) Winfrey.

Tommy accepted Jesus as his Savior at an early age at Cedar Groves Baptist Church.  He attended Cedar Groves Elementary School and Jackman High School.  He worked a while in Louisville, but ultimately returned home to Crocus to run a successful dairy farm.  He enjoyed coon hunting and performing in a local gospel singing group with the Jones and Philpot brothers.

Tommy married Mary Florence (Weathers) Winfrey in November 1955.  Their union was blessed with four children, 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren

He is preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Georgia Winfrey; brothers Walter Winfrey, James  “Buddy” Winfrey, Norman Winfrey, Frank Winfrey and Wendell Winfrey; and sisters Nora Lee Garrison and Gloria Calhoun.

He leaves to mourn:

Four children – George Winfrey (Michelle) of Louisville, Maria Franklin of Louisville, Vincent Winfrey (Avis) of Embry, Alabama and Mark Winfrey of Georgetown, Kentucky

Grandchildren – Denise Watkins-McMillion (Richard) Travis Winfrey, Ryan McMorris, George Winfrey (Tamica), Yolonda Webb (Thomas), Donald “Trae” Franklin, Desmond Franklin (Neosha), Dillon Winfrey, Mark “Isaac” Winfrey, Joshua Winfrey and Anna Winfrey

His sisters – Harlene Hartwell of California, Kathrine Sylvas (Lionel) of Louisville and Cynthia Bowling of California

Funeral service – Saturday, June 4, 2022 at 3:00 P.M. at Grissom-Martin Funeral Home with burial to follow in the Holt Cemetery
